Reviews Printers– The new imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8500 series joins his brother, the series imageRUNNER ADVANCE 6500, in-line production oriented Canon.
Canon is continuously improving its machinery, especially high volume devices. With its wealth of paper handling features, a great security and powerful engine, the imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8500 series are scalable to any large volume printing environment.
As the 6500 series, this series is also built on the latest generation imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform. With a speed range of 85 ppm to 105 ppm, these machines are designed for companies with high-volume printing needs, such as publishing plants, central reprographic departments (CRDs) and manufacturers.
The 8500 series has some other differences with respect to the 6500 series speed, as well as finishing options, plus a normal 10.4 “panel (for two of the three machines) and a two tone color combination (light gray and dark gray).
All three devices offer standard printing, copying, and scanning, and use Canon’s custom dual processor. Fax is optional. The standard memory is 3 GB. There is a standard 250 GB hard drive with an optional additional 250 GB mirror hard drive.
The 8585i includes a 10.1 “color LCD panel and the other two devices supporting a 10.4” color LCD panel.
The 8500 series includes many options for handling paper. Standard paper input starts with a 1,500-sheet dual paper tray, two 550-sheet paper trays, and a 100-sheet bypass of 4,200 sheets. The option is available to add a 3,500-sheet paper cover (just the letter-size cover or a paper cover that accepts up to 13 “x 19”) up to a maximum of 7,700 sheets. All trays support up to 80 lbs. Paperweight deck, except for the bypass (which supports up to 140 lb.).
There is a feeder sheet document 300 that supports double-sided printing in one pass.
Companies also have different finishing options. First, there is a three-bin tray finisher (available only on 8585i), which has a capacity of 500 sheets in two trays and 3,000 sheets in a third tray. It supports stapling multiposition up to 65 sheets. Another option is the booklet finisher with stapling (again, only for 8585i). It has the same capacity tray and stapling as the stapling unit, but can also stamp point up to 20 sheets. A 2/3 hole can be added to any unit.
