Canon MAXIFY GX4050 Driver Download

Canon MAXIFY GX4050 Driver Download, Software, and Manual– The new Canon Maxify GX4050 seems very interesting. At around 550 euros, the 4-in-1 model costs 70 euros less than the GX6050 and even has a fax function again. Canon is positioning the newcomer against the Epson Ecotank ET-5170, which is much more expensive at 600 euros.

The printing unit may be based on the same thermal head, but the speed is somewhat reduced, as noted from the Maxify MB2150 cartridge printer compared to the MB5150.

In standard quality on plain paper, up to 18 prints per minute (ipm) in B/W or ten ipm in color mode can be achieved – this is slightly faster than the comparable Epson Ecotank. The previous “bigger” model around the GX6050 was faster at 24 ipm. With automatic duplex printing, the limits are low in absolute terms: 10 ipm in B/W or eight ipm in color.

Three instead of two paper feeds

Slightly reduced pressure speed can be withstood. Especially if there is a third paper feed for it, first the familiar: Paper cassettes, which are protected against dust, still only accept plain paper in A4 or A5 format up to 105 g/m².

The rear manual feed for 100 sheets (measured by plain paper) is virtually unrestricted. Plain paper in a smaller format or specialty paper (e.g., glossy photo paper) or envelopes can also be inserted there.

What’s new for Canon printers in its class is an additional third notch for the artboard on the back. The highlight is that even stiff media up to 0.7 mm (or approx. 520 g/m²) are drawn straight. This can be very useful for promotional material. There is a similar approach with Epson’s more expensive photo printers, such as the Ecotank ET-8500.

Up to 350 sheets (measured by plain paper) can be stored in Maxify, and additional sheets can be entered manually. An optional paper cassette is not provided.

Banners up to 120 cm long can also be processed for two back feeds.

However, automatic duplex printing is only possible in A4 on plain paper. However, borderless printing still needs to be possible in the GX series. That remains an exclusive advantage of Epson’s ET-5800 series – the ET-5170 doesn’t manage that either.

Scanner, ADF & control panel

A flatbed with a 1,200 dpi CIS sensor mounted for scanning and copying – standard fare. There is also a 35-sheet simplex ADF for multi-page documents, which has a slightly smaller capacity than the GX6050 (50 sheets). However, the special feature of this Maxify device is the assistant for duplex copyright on the device. Once the stack is inserted, the user is asked to flip and thus can be guided to a two-sided copy. Many other printers with a simplex ADF cannot do this. Canon advantage!

From the device itself, scans can be sent to a computer or forwarded via email (SMTP with TLS 1.2/1.3) or stored on a network (SMB V2/3). Cloud storage is also possible through a connection with “Canon Cloud Link.”

The slightly tilted but no longer rotating control panel has been redesigned in a symmetrical design. The screen has a “familiar” 6.9 cm diagonal and proved fairly easy to use in tests but was very text-heavy at lower levels. On the other hand, the few control buttons placed next to the touch screen are clearer and more practical.

Ports, printer languages, and drivers

The USB interface is sufficient for connection to a computer. On the other hand, for integration into a network or mobile printing, a connection via Ethernet (10/100 Mbit) or wifi is required. The latter works with 5 GHz and current WPA3 standards, including TLS 1.3.

A fast wireless connection can be set up via wifi Direct. However, there is no supporting Bluetooth or NFC tag.

Like all current Canon ink printers in A4 format, the GX4050 is a pure GDI printer with no standard PCL or Postscript drivers. Apple’s systems are handled via Airprint, with specific Windows drivers. The Mopria standard is also present. ChromeOS is supported natively; for Android, there is a print plugin. Microsoft Windows is supported from version 7 and macOS from version 10.14.6.
