Canon Pixma MG6220 Drivers Download–  If you’re a fan of futuristic controls, you’ll love the beautiful Canon Pixma MG6220 color multifunction inkjet (print/scan/copy). The controls and LCD screen are built into the scanner lid and you’ll feel like you’re working with the Star Trek conveyor the first time you use it. In addition, the Pixma MG6220 handles high-quality prints and decent scans and is fast for inkjet MFPs. However, you pay a lot for the good looks of this model ($ 200 as of September 22, 2011), and the ink costs are also a bit high.
Setting up the MG6220, whether via USB, Ethernet or Wi-Fi, is easy. Canon is updating the appearance of routine installation dialogs, although they are not yet as professional in appearance as Kodaks. Fortunately, the software package, which deals with scanning, OCR and other household chores, is as efficient and capable as any of the competitions.

Yes, the MG6220’s control panel, which debuted last year on the more expensive Canon Pixma MG8120, looks futuristic. And yes, there is an undeniable “wow” appeal. But we have the same complaint about it now as before: It is not as effective as it could be. The three buttons below the inverted 3-inch LCD screen that you use to select display options seem like an unnecessary alternative to the usual navigation and selection buttons. You often have to lift your fingers from the navigation controls and switch to the selection buttons, which adds a lot of lost movement.

The media handling of the MG6220 is a little better than it may seem at first glance. In addition to the rear vertical 150-sheet feed for all types of media, you’ll find a 150-sheet plain paper drawer hidden at the bottom of the machine. The MG6220 automatically duplexes (prints on both sides of the paper), but does not offer an ADF (automatic feeder) for the scanner – this is not an MFP for scanning long documents. The device includes multimedia slots for CompactFlash, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick and SD Card, and also has a USB / PictBridge port.

Print speed and quality are high points for the Pixma MG6220. The text looks pretty good – sharp and dark – and reaches a fast 7.8 pages per minute on a computer and 8.14 ppm on a Mac. Photos printed on plain paper look good, albeit slightly washed out, and print at over 3 ppm (photo size). Full-page photos printed on glossy paper look vivid and clear, but only print at 0.6 ppm; this is approximately the average for inkjet multifunction devices.

PIXMA Cloud Print

In addition to standard wireless printing, the PIXMA MG6220 allows users to print photos directly from online photo albums such as CANON iMAGE GATEWAY and Picasa without having to use a computer. Accessing photos first requires connecting to the online gallery via the MG6220’s control panel. Entering a username and password may hurt you, as you must select each character individually using the scroll wheel, but once the printer is connected to an album, it can access photos at any time (provided there is an internet connection).

PIXMA Cloud Print works pretty fast – once we connected to our Picasa account, we printed a 4 x 6 photo in 1 minute and 6 seconds, a little less than 10 seconds longer than it took to print the same picture using standard wireless connection. We just want to be able to send photos directly to the printer while browsing our Picasa Gallery, not just the other way around.

Google Cloud Print

Like the HP Photosmart 5520, Epson WorkForce 845 and Kodak ESP 3.2, the PIXMA MG6220 has Google Cloud Print connectivity that allows users to send files directly to the printer using a variety of Google products, including Chrome, Chrome OS, Gmail for mobile and Google Docs for mobile.

While it sounds great in theory, forcing Google Cloud Print to work on the MG6220 proved to be a pain. Our printer does not come with the latest firmware installed. More annoyingly, installing the firmware requires a Standard-B USB cable, which is not included with the PIXMA MG6220. The fact that you need to download a third-party app to use Google Cloud Print from an Android device – we used Cloud Print – only added to our disappointment.

Unfortunately, Google Cloud Print is just as slow as the setup process. When printing a two-sided black-and-white Word document, a two-sided color PDF, and a 4 x 6 color photo, the PIXMA MG6220 did 1:10, 1:13, and 1:23, respectively, about the same as the HP Photosmart 5520 (1:05, 0: 55 and 2:30) and Epson WorkForce 845 (0:58, 2:15 and 2:40). Kodak ESP 3.2 prints documents faster, becoming 0:53, 0:53 and 1:12 times, respectively.

The PIXMA MG6220 also allows users to print from their iPad, iPhone (3GS or later) or iPod Touch (3rd generation or later) using Apple’s wireless printing software, AirPrint. As usual with Apple products, AirPrint is incredibly sleek and intuitive, allowing you to send documents and photos to your printer with just a few taps. Setting up AirPrint has proven much easier than using Google Cloud Print – Apple’s software automatically detects all AirPrint-enabled printers on the same wireless network as your iOS device, so all you have to do is tap print. select the printer and touch print again.

Two-sided black and white Word document printed in 57 seconds, two-sided color PDF in 62 seconds, and 4 x 6 color photos in 1:26, compared to the faster 27 seconds, 52 seconds, and (slightly slower) 1: 30 on the Photosmart 5520. However, this device prints documents faster than the Epson WorkForce 845, which completes tasks at 1:15, 1:18 and 1:41, respectively.

Printer efficiency and photo quality

The Canon PIXMA MG6220 offers comparable, albeit slightly slower, wireless print speeds than the HP Photosmart 5520, Kodak ESP 3.2, and Epson WorkForce 845. wireless network, the PIXMA MG6220 prints a Word document in 27 seconds (0:22 HP, 0:22 Kodak and 0:18 Epson), a PDF document in 45 seconds (0:35 HP, 0:47 Kodak, and 0 : 34 on Epson) and a 4 x 6 photo in 57 seconds (0:49 on HP, 1:17 on Kodak and 1:20 on Epson).

Fortunately, what the PIXMA MG6220 lacks in performance is offset by quality. Although the MG6220 suffers from the fine-grained text of printed black-and-white Word documents, the images in our color PDF look much sharper and more vivid when printed on the PIXMA MG6220 than on the Photosmart 5520.

When printing photos, the PIXMA MG6220 showed more accurate color reproduction than the Photosmart 5520. When comparing a 4 x 6 photo of the Sonoma Valley vineyard, the blue sky, green leaves and red shingles on the roof of the barn look deeper in shade. closer to the picture of our computer than the too bright colors produced by Photosmart 5520.

Other features

In addition to wireless and USB, the PIXMA MG6220 also allows users to print via a Memory Stick Duo, SD card or CompactFlash card.

Under the hood, the MG6220 features a flatbed scanner that can capture images (8.5 x 11.7-inch maximum document size) with a maximum optical resolution of 4800 x 4800 or an interpolated resolution of 19,200 x 19,200 dpi.

The scanner also doubles as a copier, with features including 4-in-1 and 2-in-1 copying, automatic two-sided printing, facial light adjustment, and fading and fitting to the page.

Click to enlarge The Canon PIXMA MG6220 from $ 199 offers high-quality prints and many useful features, including AirPrint and the ability to print photos from your Picasa account without touching your computer. The slow setup process of this device, below average print speeds and relatively expensive ink cartridges prevent it from joining the ranks of the best all-in-one printers.
