This printer comes with six ChromaLife 100 dye-based inks and uses Canon’s FINE print head technology, making it an affordable competitor to Epson’s EcoTank Photo ET-8500.
Compact Design, Yet Limited Size
The PIXMA G660 focuses on quality but is limited to A4-sized printing. This means its maximum print width is 216 mm in borderless mode. While Epson’s ET-8550 offers larger A3+ output, Canon has yet to provide this option for refillable photo printers. Both printers, however, use extra ink colors, improving over standard four-ink (CMYK) models.
The Ink System: A Game-Changer
The Canon PIXMA G660 comes with six 70 mL ink bottles:

Durability of ChromaLife 100 Inks
Canon’s ChromaLife 100 inks, introduced in 2005, are durable and produce vivid colors. When displayed behind glass, these inks can last 25 years and up to 100 years in photo albums stored in dark, controlled environments. However, unprotected prints may fade in 10 years due to exposure to air and light.
Canon later developed the ChromaLife 100+ inks, which offer improved durability:
- Light-fastness: 40 years behind glass
- Fade-resistance: 200 years in photo albums
- Gas-fastness: Double the original (20 years)
A Balance Between Cost and Performance
Canon’s decision to use ChromaLife 100 inks in the G660 instead of the more advanced 100+ system likely stems from marketing. The higher-performing inks are still sold only in small replaceable cartridges for other models like the PIXMA PRO-200.
