Canon Pixma TR8622 Driver Setup, Software, and Manual– The Canon Pixma TR8622 is an all-in-one inkjet printer with home office features.
Unlike most of the best all-in-one printers, the TR8622 uses five ink cartridges, with two types of black: one for documents (pigment-based) and another for glossy photo prints (dye-based). The other three inks are standard cyan, magenta, and yellow.
Canon Pixma TR8622 Design
The TR8622 has a large 4.3-inch color touchscreen on its control panel, which tilts upwards 90 degrees. There are no physical buttons for operation (only the power button), but I found the touchscreen responsive and the menus intuitive to navigate. At the bottom left of the front panel is the SD card slot, so you can print directly from the camera’s memory card.
The main paper cassette and rear paper tray hold up to 100 sheets of plain paper. The rear paper tray, which should be used for photo printing, can hold up to 20 sheets of photo paper. The paper cassette is located at the bottom of the unit, below the output tray. See More: Canon Pixma TR4650 Driver.
To use the ADF on top of the unit, you open the cover, which hinges outward to serve as a support for the paper input. The TR8622 is equipped with a duplexer for two-sided printing, but automatic two-sided scanning is not supported. This means that to make a double-sided copy or scan of a document, you must run the document through the ADF twice, scanning one side at a time. The LCD offers graphics to ensure you place the document correctly to ensure a successful second side scan.
The TR8622 has a Hi-Speed USB port and you can put it on the network via the Ethernet port or via Wi-Fi. This is very average of across-the-board home inkjets. Albeit the authority profundity with paper stacked is 14.4 inches, I found that with the rear tray tilted back and loaded with paper, and the output tray extended with the latch folded forward, the total depth increases to 26 inches. Additionally, opening the ADF for use adds an inch in height. Most importantly, however, you want to have sufficient vertical clearance to raise the lid to place the document on the flatbed scanner glass.
Canon Pixma TR8622 Print speed
Print speed on plain paper is slightly faster than average. The TR8622 printed our five-page text report in 32.6 seconds (or, 9.2 ppm) versus the 8.8 ppm normal for practically identical models. Also, the TR8622 printed our six-page record comprising of mixed text and color graphics in 1 minute, 52 seconds (or, 3.2 ppm) compared to an average of 2 minutes, 13 seconds (or, 2.7 ppm).
The most impressive print speeds are on glossy photos. The TR8622 prints letter-sized photos on glossy paper in just 2 minutes 4 seconds—about half the average time of 4 minutes 3 seconds. See More: Canon Pixma TR4720 Driver.
The TR8622 renders two-sided prints of our color PDF at 2.3 ppm. As with double-sided text printing, there is a 14-second delay before printing begins on the second side of each page. Again, the Brother MFC-J995DW is faster, rendering two-sided color text/graphic prints at 3 ppm, while the HP Envy 7855 is much slower, at 1.2 ppm.
Canon Pixma TR8622 Copy and scan speed
Using its ADF, the TR8622 copies a five-page text document in 45 seconds, or 6.7 ppm. The Brother MFC-J995DW is slightly faster, at 7 ppm.
The TR8622 does not offer automatic duplex scanning and copying. Instead, it offers manual duplex copying and scanning, where the user places the document in the ADF twice: Once for each side. It’s easy to follow the on-screen LCD instructions, which show you how to orient the document so that the second scan is oriented correctly.
The Pixma TR8622 copies a 10-page (five double-sheet) text document in 5 minutes, or 2 ppm, excluding the time it takes to reload the document into the ADF.
The same goes for black-and-white scans to PDF format at 300 dpi. The TR8622 captured a scan in 8.8 seconds, which is faster than the 11-second average. The Canon TS9120 performs the same scan in 7.7 seconds.
Canon Pixma TR8622 Print quality
The TR8622 offers high print quality overall, printing text that is quite dark. The edges look quite sharp, although the letterform could be slimmer. The color graphics are attractive, with accurate colors and textures, although some light lines are visible in dark areas.
Glossy photos are printed with high-quality accuracy: Natural-looking colors, sharp details, and smooth transitions.
Copy quality is good overall. The copy reproduces the details and colors of the original fairly well: The graphics are very similar to the original, and the text appears a little thicker at the edges. Copies of text documents fed through the ADF, in particular, come out with fonts that appear fatter and have less sharp edges than reproductions placed on the flatbed. See More: Canon Pixma TR7520 Driver.
However, one anomaly for copy quality is that when copying from the control panel, the zoom function does not offer the option to prioritize edges or select the copy area. As a result, the top of my document is clipped off in the copy, instead of excluding empty white space from the copy.
Similarly, to perform a test scan we were required to do so from a PC, where we could set the resolution in the scanning software. The TR8622’s on-screen menu does not offer a scan resolution setting.
Canon Pixma TR8622 Ink costs and yield
The TR8622 uses five ink cartridges. Three colors (cyan, magenta, and yellow) ink and one dye-based black ink. In addition, pigment-based black ink is used to print documents on plain paper, while the black dye is used more in glossy photo prints. Using standard cartridges, the cost per page of text is 8 cents. This calculation only includes black ink pigments.
For the total cost of this text/mixed color graphic page, we include the cost of dye-based black ink. It’s barely used on regular paper prints, adding only 0.7 cents per page, at most.
In general, the cost per page is slightly higher than average for printers in its class (excluding models with refilled ink tanks).
Canon Pixma TR8622 Settings and software
Setting up the TR8622 is simple: Remove some tape, press the power button, and install the ink and paper cartridges. By following the on-screen instructions guide, you will print a printhead alignment page, and scan it.
Connecting my iPhone to the printer is just as easy. The TR8622’s LCD menu for Wi-Fi Direct includes a QR code. I just picked it up with my iPhone, which triggered a request to join a Wi-Fi Direct network with the printer.
Fast startup, in just 3.7 seconds. Making an immediate black-and-white copy takes only 10 seconds longer than usual, sending a copy before many models even offer a home screen to start operation.
Canon Pixma TR8622 Decision
With a document feeder and duplexer, the Canon Pixma TR8622 delivers office features at a reasonable price. Other than that, the TR8622 doesn’t disappoint on picture quality. Canon Pixma TR8622 is much faster for glossy photo printing. . If you are buying a printer primarily for printing photos, the Canon Pixma TR8622 is a better choice.
However, if your printing task is light enough, and you rarely need double-sided copies, the versatile Canon Pixma TR8622 is likely to delight you with its high image quality and fast performance.
