The paper handling of the printer, with a 150-sheet input tray, no duplex printing and no upgrade options, effectively defines the MF8280Cw as suitable for light-weight purposes only. The 150-sheet capacity should be sufficient for most small offices, with manual feed of one sheet serving as a convenience. If you print more than 30 pages per day, however, including copies and incoming faxes, the continuous loading of the paper tray can quickly become annoying.
For scanning, the MF8280Cw completes its flat-rate letter with a 50-sheet ADF that can process normal-size pages as well as multi-page documents.
The MF8280Cw is 16.9 to 17.0 by 19.1 inches and weighs at 57.3 pounds, most people will want some help to move it in place. This becomes surprisingly large and heavy according to modern standards for the features it offers, especially given the limited work with paper. Assuming you have enough space for this, the setting is typical for the breed.
In addition to a USB port, the MF8280Cw supports both Wi-Fi and wired network connections. For my tests, I connected it to its Ethernet port and installed the Windows Vista driver.
Canon estimates the printer at 14 pages per minute (ppm) for both monochrome and color, which is the speed you need to see when printing text files with little or no formatting. I loaded it into our suite of business applications (using QualityLogic hardware and software for synchronization) at 4.3 ppm, which is a good rate for the evaluation. It is also slightly faster than the MF8080Cw at 3.7 ppm and is essentially connected to the Dell 1355cnw at 4.5 ppm. However, this is significantly slower than an inkjet printer Select the HP Officejet Pro 276dw MFP
Output quality is a strong point for the printer, with text, graphics, and image quality totally stable or higher. The text is in the highest part of the range where the majority of color laser multifunction devices fall, making it good enough for any business use unless you have an unusual need for small fonts and a highly critical eye.
Similarly, graphics production is good enough for any business needs, including an outlet to an important customer or customer, when it is important for the production to look completely professional. Depending on the degree of perfectionism, you can consider it good enough for DYI marketing materials, such as. The printer tends to lose thin lines, but most printers make it much worse.
The photo output is as close as you can achieve true picture quality while printing on plain paper that puts output near the best color laser MFP. Mount the frames behind the glass and you need to look closely to find out that they are not true picture quality. They are certainly good enough to print photos on one page and other similar materials.
One potential issue that requires mention is the high cost of the MF8280Cw, at 3.6 cents per mono page and 20.6 cents per color page. This may not matter if you print a few pages or if the high quality is more important to you than the cost per page. Before you buy the printer, however, you need to be aware of running costs and take them into account.
It would be easier to give this printer a lighter recommendation if it is smaller, has a higher paper capacity, or has a lower cost per page. Even in its present form, it offers a lot to please, with high quality output and a full range of features for the MFP.
